Hotel Review: Hotel Saint Cecelia

{Hotel Saint Cecilia}

When we decided that the location for my bachelorette party was going to be in Austin I knew we had to stay at the infamous Hotel Saint Cecelia! The Hotel Saint Cecelia has been on my list of best hotels to stay at in Texas for as long as I can remember and let me tell you it did not disappoint!

If you’re looking for an incredibly luxurious retreat that still has that effortlessly cool Austin vibe, then Hotel Saint Cecilia is for you! Named after the patron saint of poetry and music, the hotel has lots of soul and is extremely unique.

One of our favorite parts was checking in and being told that guests have access to movies, books and even vintage vinyl records since the rooms come equipped with turntables!

Hotel Saint Cecilia is also walking distance to SoCo’s (South Congress Avenue – the ‘hip strip’) numerous restaurants, bars, boutiques, coffee shops, music venues and more!

SOCO

Some of our favorites place on South Congress Ave are:

EAT

  • Jo’s Coffee (great for breakfast, the best coffee + Tacodeli tacos = perfection! This is also where the famous ‘I love you so much’ wall is. Make sure and get an Instagram pic!)
  • Guero’s (Mexican food – great tacos)
  • Amy’s Ice Cream (the best ice cream!)
  • Home Slice Pizza (crazy good pizza. My uncle works in Austin and gets this for lunch all the time.)
  • Enoteca Vespaio (Italian-American staple. Love getting a cheese plate and glass of vino here.)
  • Perla’s (Amazing seafood! We ate here for dinner on Saturday night during my bachelorette weekend and it was AMAZING! Seriously, the best, already planning a trip back!)
  • June’s (Inventive American fare, cocktails, beer & wine in a bright space with a pretty patio. There’s a vintage jukebox and the patio is dog-friendly!)

DRINK

  • Hotel San Jose (You don’t have to be staying here to enjoy their pretty lounge patio area. This is where we first discovered and fell in love with Frosé! Also, on certain Saturdays, the fun lounge transforms into a pop-up brunch buffet!)
  • TOMS Roasting Co.

SHOPPING

MUSIC

  • Continental Club (We’ve been here a few times and have always enjoyed the music and dancing!)

Now back to Hotel Saint Cecelia…

When we checked in after our road trip down from Dallas we decided to stop at their beautiful bar and order some drinks to take back to the room. Their house margarita was delicious and they had an awesome wine list (of course!) We stayed in one of their poolside bungalows and it easily slept four people.

We loved our large bedroom with King Hästens bed (divine!), well-curated living room and outdoor seating. Our sweet little courtyard at our entry way was the best! Also, the toiletries were some of the best I’ve seen. They even had Le Labo our favorite! I love the Santal 26 candle and my husband is obsessed with their Santal 33 cologne. They even had a medicine cabinet filled with unique items from around the world that you can purchase. The bathroom felt like your own personal spa! It was FANTASTIC!

What we liked:

  • That it’s walking distance to SOCO. Literally two blocks away if that! You can stay in this area the entire weekend and never have to leave, which is a good thing because taxis can be hard to come by, especially now that Uber isn’t operating in Austin at this time.
  • How beautiful everything was.
  • The bar/lounge area.
  • The pool! Fantastic for not only relaxing and swimming but also for pictures!
  • The bed, beyond comfortable. Seriously, one of the best nights sleep ever!
  • Our poolside bungalow. It was perfect for our girls getaway. Three of us slept in the King size bed and then they also brought us an incredibly nice roll away bed and the couch in the living room made for another great spot to sleep.
  • The courtyard. It was wonderful walking up to our bungalow through a little gate that opened up into a beautiful green space with table and chairs.
  • The service. Everyone was so nice and we felt at home.
  • The toiletries (they’re beyond luxurious).
  • How unique and fabulous it is. We’re already planning a return trip soon!

What we didn’t like:

  • The room keys are expensive if you misplace them! When you check out you need to turn your keys back in and if lost you owe $75 per key! Yes, the keys are cool and a very nice touch. That being said, when we were rushing to check out we couldn’t find one key and it turned into a slight panic of unpacking everything only to repack everything because we ended up finding it underneath the bathroom sink because a towel had been thrown over it. Eek!
  • How expensive coffee service was. With Jo’s Coffee and TOMS Roasting Co. right down the street (within walking distance) there is literally no reason to pay upwards of $50 for two french presses and an assortment of milk.

All in all, this has been one of our favorite boutique hotel stays EVER, and we are looking forward to a trip back in the near future. It’s worth the splurge… 100%! If you’re celebrating an occasion like a birthday, engagement, bachelorette weekend (like us!), or wedding it’s the perfect place!

I would stay for at least two nights so you can get the most out of what Hotel Saint Cecelia has to offer (which is a lot!) while also spending a good amount of time exploring SOCO and other parts of Austin like downtown, East 6th, Zilker Park and more.
